We first reached out to Pepe from Finca Soledad in July 2022 with the hope of being able to purchase some coffee directly from his farm. It was exciting since we had never roasted coffees from Ecuador and also there wasn't much exposure in Singapore.
We understood that coffees from Ecuador tend to be more expensive as it is a small country with high production costs. However, we were excited to feature something that wasn't the common everyday coffee. We eventually settled on 2 washed coffees from his farm, a Typica Mejorado as well as a Gesha which will be released later this year!
Mejorado is a very unique varieity mainly grown in Ecuador - a Bourbon variety cross-pollinated with an Ethiopian Landrace variety.
